Veterans Services<br />

<strong>Delaware</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> welcomes Veterans! In an effort to<br />

provide increased services and educational assistance to our U.S. Veterans,<br />

<strong>Delaware</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> has established a Veterans Services<br />

Center to coordinate better its veterans outreach and educational support<br />

services. These services include information and referral services, assistance<br />

with financial aid application and veterans’ benefits, and evaluation of military<br />

transcripts for college credit. The office seeks to address the challenges<br />

returning veterans experience in seeking college level education and training.<br />

International Student Services<br />

<strong>Delaware</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> welcomes students from around the<br />

world. Recognizing that studying and living in a foreign country is a unique<br />

experience, one that can be both exciting and challenging; the Office of<br />

International Student Services supports non-immigrant students through a<br />

variety of programs and services. These include orientation, academic<br />

advising, assistance with immigration matters, and help locating housing.<br />

Students on F-1 visa must study full-time in both the fall and spring<br />

semesters. Individuals on student visas are not eligible for Financial Aid. For<br />

Office of Information Technology (OIT)<br />

The mission of the Office of Information Technology is to provide technical<br />

innovation and quality support for computer, network and telecommunication<br />

services enabling the students, faculty and staff of <strong>Delaware</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> to meet effectively the goals of a student success-oriented<br />

community. OIT works collaboratively and continuously with the campus<br />

community to evaluate emerging technologies and to determine how they may<br />

best be leveraged to achieve the <strong>College</strong>’s overall evolving objectives.<br />

OIT supports and enhances the <strong>College</strong> Academic areas by supporting<br />

systems, servers, desktops, audio/visual services, and phone systems in<br />

offices, classrooms, labs, and public areas. Further, OIT supports the <strong>College</strong>’s<br />

public and intranet websites, the delaGATE web portal, and provides all wired<br />

and wireless networking services intra/inter-campus and to the internet.<br />

Services offered for students:<br />

Network Account: All admitted students receive a DCCCid account. This<br />

account provides access systems at the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Wireless: Registered students can bring their laptop and connect to the<br />

<strong>College</strong> wireless network and get access to the Internet.<br />

Computer Lab: Room 4256 is an open lab available for general student<br />

use. This lab has specific software installed that mirrors classroom software<br />

and provides printing capability. Room 4256 is open during the semester<br />

8:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Friday –<br />

Saturday. Summer hours are Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. Each<br />

campus has a designated computer lab area available for use. Please check<br />

where these designated areas are in regards to each campus.<br />

Support Center: The OIT Support Center is available for students to report<br />

any technical problems. This office will assist with any connectivity issues<br />

using student or college owned equipment. This office is located at the Marple<br />

Campus Room 4274, accessible at http://support.dccc.edu, or by phone at<br />

610-359-5211.<br />

delaGATE: The <strong>College</strong> portal is our central source of all information for<br />

students. The portal is also used for access to systems (student records, email,<br />

WebStudy, etc.)<br />

Email: The <strong>College</strong> provides all admitted students with email, which is the<br />

preferred method for all <strong>College</strong> communications.<br />

English as a Second Language<br />

<strong>Delaware</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers courses and services for students<br />

who need English for everyday life, employment, and study in U.S. colleges.<br />

Two types of classes are offered<br />

Credit courses: The college offers on three levels courses in grammar,<br />

writing, reading and speaking/listening (Elementary, Intermediate I and<br />

Intermediate II). Tutoring is required for ESL students in writing, reading and<br />

speaking/listening courses. This service supports classroom learning and<br />

student proficiency in English. The ESL credit program prepares students for<br />

introductory-level college courses and English 100, required for all degrees.<br />

ESL credits do not count toward the student’s degree but may be necessary for<br />

success. Permanent residents may study either full- or part-time and may be<br />

eligible for financial aid. Students apply through the Admissions Office and are<br />

enrolled in classes after sitting for an English as a Second Language (ESL)<br />

placement test.<br />

Non-credit courses: These courses meet four hours each week. The focus<br />

is on English conversation for everyday life, with some reading and writing.<br />

Students can register for these courses through <strong>Community</strong> and Corporate<br />

Education.<br />

The Library<br />

The <strong>Delaware</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> library on the Marple Campus<br />

offers a variety of resources and services to support the curriculum and<br />

information needs of the students, faculty, and staff. Located on the fourth floor<br />

of Founders Hall, the library collection contains over 50,000 items including<br />

books, videos, audio CDs, microforms, and other media. While the library<br />

subscribes to over 200 periodicals in hard copy, it also provides access to an<br />

additional 21,000+ periodicals through online database subscriptions. As<br />

well, students may use numerous computers and laptops in both the library<br />

and the library computer/group study and instruction labs for research,<br />

academic work, Internet access, and email. Users may access these materials<br />

through an online catalog linked to the library website at<br />

http://www.dccc.edu/library. Items not available in the library may be obtained<br />

through reciprocal borrowing with colleges in a tri-state area consortium or<br />

through a national inter-library loan program. As well, students at satellite<br />

campuses may utilize an Intra-Campus Borrowing program. <strong>Community</strong><br />

members are welcome and may borrow for a fee. All library transactions<br />

require a valid DCCCid which may be obtained at the library or any of the<br />

satellite-campus Learning Resource Centers. For more information about the<br />

New Choices Career Development Program<br />

New Choices is a FREE program providing assistance to unemployed<br />

individuals, single parents, displaced homemakers, and those in transition so<br />

that they may achieve their career, educational and personal goals. Small<br />

group workshops provide guidance to determine career interests, explore<br />

employment and training opportunities and prepare for success in today’s job<br />

market. Non-credit “computer basics” and math review classes are included.<br />

Classes are offered in January, March and September at the Marple Campus,<br />

the Southeast Center and Downingtown or Exton campuses. Evening classes<br />

are offered at the Marple campus. For additional information and to find out if<br />
