Interactive Multimedia Option (IMM): 28 Credits<br />

This program option provides the student knowledge and skills to develop<br />

World Wide Web (WWW) pages and Computer-Based Training (CBT)<br />

applications that employ a variety of audio and visual media including<br />

animation, video and graphics.<br />

In conjunction with the general education and IT core requirements students<br />

should be able to:<br />

• Identify elements of effective multimedia, CBT and/or web applications.<br />

• Utilize the instructional design process for CBT, multimedia and/or web<br />

applications, including needs and assessment, audience analysis, media<br />

selection, storyboarding, materials development and program evaluation.<br />

• Determine the appropriate platform (or combination of platforms) for<br />

specific audience/environment (text, audio, video) and desired results for<br />

CBT, multimedia, and/or web applications.<br />

• Use appropriate authoring tools and programming languages required for<br />

production of CBT, multimedia and web applications.<br />

• Use high-level programming languages required for multimedia, CBT or<br />

web application development. Identify and incorporate the effective<br />

elements of interface design into a CBT or web application.<br />

• Design and create multimedia, CBT or web projects that illustrate<br />

appropriate use of text, color, sound, video and user interactivity.<br />

• Demonstrate ability to work in teams to create multimedia, CBT and/or<br />

web applications.<br />

Help Desk/Technical Support (DPM): 31-33 credits<br />

This option provides students with the necessary skills for employment at a<br />

help desk or as a technical support person in a computer environment. The<br />

program reflects the growing emphasis on assessment of skills and skill levels.<br />

The learning sequence established by this curriculum is designed to prepare<br />

students to qualify to take certification examinations including, Net +, Microsoft<br />

Office Specialist (MOS), Service Technician (A+), Microsoft Certified Professional<br />

(MCP), Novell Certified Netware Administrator (CNA), and Cisco (CCNA).<br />

In conjunction with the general education and IT core requirements students<br />

should be able to:<br />

• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of application software.<br />

• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of integrated office software.<br />

• Communicate effectively using appropriate computer terminology.<br />

• Demonstrate the skills necessary to support customers and troubleshoot<br />

microcomputers.<br />

• Install and troubleshoot microcomputers in a networked environment.<br />

• Maintain the hardware and software in a networked environment.<br />

Insurance Claims Adjuster, Associate in<br />

Applied Science (INS)<br />

The Insurance Claims Adjuster curriculum is designed to service the professional<br />

growth and career needs of the insurance industry with respect to claims practice.<br />

The program is also designed to service the professional growth and career<br />

needs of currently employed claims adjuster professionals who have had little<br />

or no formal training or education. The courses mandated by the core curriculum<br />

afford a broad perspective of the insurance claims industry. Additional opportunities<br />

are provided for specialization by judicious use of program elective course<br />

work. Graduates of the program are awarded the associate in applied science.<br />

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:<br />

• Explain the basic principles and procedures of the civil laws that govern the<br />

administration of the insurance claims practice<br />

• Identify the major insurance market areas and apply the basic principles<br />

and procedures of insurance to the claims adjusting practice<br />

• Explicate the principles and procedures involved in effective claims<br />

investigations<br />

• Explicate the fundamental concepts and principles of case management and<br />

negotiations employed in claims facilitation<br />

• Report observations and information accurately and effectively<br />

• Apply basic principles to factual situations<br />

• Constructively critique policies and operations<br />

• Demonstrate a positive attitude toward the legal and human rights of others<br />

• Respect the dignity and humanity of both victim and defendant in a civil<br />

tort action as they seek remedies at law and equity<br />

• Maintain a professional attitude toward their role in the insurance<br />

claims operation<br />

• Interface professionally and properly with all who have a vested interest in<br />

the facilitation, negotiation and settlement or litigation of an insurance claim<br />
