Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and<br />
Refrigeration, Associate in Applied Science<br />
(HVAC)<br />
The associate degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and<br />
Refrigeration prepares students for employment as HVAC&R technicians who<br />
work on a variety of equipment and products. This work may include<br />
installation, maintenance and repair of various types of climate control units.<br />
The <strong>Delaware</strong> Valley chapter of The Air Conditioning Contractors of America<br />
(ACCA) has joined with the <strong>College</strong> to develop this program. The goal is to<br />
provide an educational program for current technicians, and for the basic<br />
preparation of individuals seeking entry to this field.<br />
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:<br />
• Identify and explain the functions of components in residential and light<br />
commercial HVAC&R equipment.<br />
• Describe the cycle of operation of residential and light commercial<br />
HVAC&R equipment.<br />
• Interpret wiring diagrams and building blueprints.<br />
• Perform specific installation and start-up procedures to insure operational<br />
efficiency and safety of HVAC&R equipment.<br />
• Diagnose trouble in operating safety controls.<br />
• Cite the procedures of heat loss and heat gain load calculations.<br />
• Identify how to handle refrigerant and detail potential environment<br />
hazards of fluorocarbons.<br />
• Detail the techniques of servicing equipment and start-up to develop<br />
service ability with hands-on experience.<br />
• Detail duct fabrication and installation in residential and light<br />
commercial buildings.<br />
• Describe the operation of hydronic and oil burner systems.<br />
• Diagnose trouble in hydronic and oil burner systems.<br />
• Cite procedures for servicing gas and oil heating systems.<br />
