1721/2. Jan. 1st. As for the living of Broomfeild I do not<br />

beleive this bishop would give me it, if I would have it, but I shall<br />

consult my uncle, etc. My uncle Avill give me his living, if I will<br />

reside at it,—not but I can come down every summer—I would<br />

chuse to do so for my health's sake. It is a veiy cheap <strong>country</strong>,<br />

my uncle says, being near tlie sea.<br />

1721/2. Jan. 5th. Uncle said alderman Ridley is scandalously<br />

bare of money, etc. He says brother taking a wareliouse will scarce<br />

bear, etc.—he does not furnish 'em with all they should have, they<br />

could sell more than they have<br />

1721/2. Jan. 12th <strong>The</strong> doctor of W'hickham, his salaiy<br />

Avitlidrawn. Ridley, etc.. told Mr. Dalston-^^" to come and petition for<br />

some money as reward for his services in rebellion, when he was<br />

mayor, and if he would vote against uncle, they would procure him<br />

some ; he did, and then Ridley laughed at him, and said he did not<br />

come in good dress enough, before that body, etc. Mr. Ellison told<br />

him, before all the common council, that Dalston was bribed to come<br />

thither to vote, etc., but he should not have a farthing, nay, he<br />

would make him give an account how the 500/. was laid out in his<br />

mayoralty, which was never yet accounted for. Chilton's withdrawn<br />

too, etc.<br />
