Dieil at Kensington, near London, Mrs. Drummond, wife of the<br />

Rev. Mr. R. A. Drummond, rector of Rothbury.^*<br />

1790. Feb. 23. George Gibson of Coldrift" was maliciously shot<br />

with ix pistol loaded with ball, by Thomas Wat.son, of Elfurd.^^ Jq<br />

a field of Gibson's, Avhere he was attending his workmen at the<br />

plough. It's said that a disagreement subsisted between them, and<br />

thus Watson cowardly took Gibson's life : coroner's inquest,<br />

wilful murder.<br />

1790. Feb. <strong>The</strong> newspapers give an account that the Kev. Mr. P.<br />

Stockdale is at the court of the Emperor of Morocco, where he has<br />

been received with favour and distinction.<br />

1789. March 7, 8, 9. Duke and Dutchess of Northunil)eiiand<br />

and Common Council of Alnwick : master to have 50/. per annum<br />

and usher 25/.<br />

1790. March. A most remarkable dry winter, insomuch that the<br />

oldest person living can't remember such a one.<br />

1790. March 23. A remarkable tryal at York assizes for nonperfonnance<br />

of majTiage : Miss Darling against the Rev. Mr.<br />

Atkinson.<br />

1790. March. In the beginning of this month died at Billingham,<br />

near Stockton, Mr. Joseph Maddeson, advanced in years.<br />

1790. March. Miss Darling recovered the tryal at York, 200/.<br />

damages, with costs ; rightly given !<br />

1790. April. Man-ied, the 30th of last month, Mr. James Towns,<br />

of Brimhouse, to Miss Whitham, of Bellshill.i"<br />

1790. April-!. N[icholas] B[rown] walked from Alnwick to<br />

Sta.mford, dined, drunk tea, and returned home at night.<br />

" Mr. Edward Auriol Hay Drummond, third son of Dr. Robert Hay (afterwards<br />

Drummond, sometime rector of Bothal and subsequently arclibishop of<br />

York), was rector of Rothbury from l7!^-t to 1795, and afterwards dean of Booking<br />

and prebendary of York, married first Elizabeth, daughter of William, Count de<br />

Vismes, who died at Pitt's Buildings, Kensington, on the 21st February, 1790.<br />
