1769. Oct. 26. Died at Durham in an advanced age, Richard<br />

Ro\v,226 formeirly of St. John's C'ollege in Cambridge, and a Nonjuring<br />

clergyman.<br />

1769. Nov. 24. Died at his house in Piccadilly, London, my<br />

friend, Richard Cavendish, esq.,227 Spiritual chancellor of the diooese<br />

of Durham, to whom I had been surrogate about 17 years.<br />

1769. Dec. 1. Died at his lodgings in Durham, Captain Roland<br />

Johnston, -28 formerly of Bland's Dragoons. He was a native of<br />

York, aged about 72, and was buried in Bow church.<br />

1770. Jan. 25. Henry Wastell, esq., second son of Mr. Wastell,<br />

rector of Simondbum, married, at Bow church, to Miss Patie, a<br />

milliner. 229<br />

1770. March 27. Married at Bath, Andrews, esq., to Miss<br />

Mary Hilton, 3rounger of the two daughters of the late David Hilton<br />

of Durham, esq., counsellor-at-law.230<br />

1770. April 8. Died suddenly at his house in Elvet, Robert<br />

Hilton, esq., nephew of David Hilton, esq., formerly a lieutenant in<br />

Handaside's regiment of foot.^si<br />

1770. Sept. 16. Died, Nicholas Shuttleworth, esq., at his house<br />

--" 1689/90. Jan. 14. Richard, son of John Raw, esq., baptized. HegiMers<br />

of St. Osvjald'fi, Durham. He was the son of a lawyer, and was educated at<br />

Durham school under Mr. Rosse, and of St. John's College, Cambridge, to which<br />

he was admitted 27th April, 1706, aged 16. He was buried at Durham<br />

Cathedral on the 29th of October, 1769. Of. pedigree of Rowe of Plawsworth,<br />

"' Tuesday se'nnight, died at his house in London, Richard Cavendish, esq.,<br />

nephew [sic) to the Bishop of Durham, and spiritual chancellor of that diocese.<br />

Newcastle Gourant, 2nd December, 1769. He was eldest son of Dr. Chandler,<br />

Bishop of Durham, by whom he was appointed spiritual chancellor in 1737.<br />

He married Elizabeth, daughter of Lord James Cavendish, and assumed that<br />

name by Act of Parliament. Cf. Hutchinson, Durham, vol. ii. p. 256.<br />

Yesterday se'enight, died at Durham, after a few hours illness, Captain<br />

Johnson, an officer on half-pay. XenraM.h Couraiit, 9th December, 1769.<br />

Rowland Johnson, son of Isaac Johnson, was admitted free of the city of<br />

York, 1719-1720. Cf. Regifiter of the Freemen of the City of Yo7-k, ed. Collins,<br />

vol. ii. p. 215. He was a captain in the 7th Regiment of Dragoons. Cf.<br />
