1758. April 26. Died suddenly of an apoplectic fit at Barningham<br />

in Yorkshire, Mark Milbank, esq., of that place, unmarried, and the<br />

last of that branch. He was the worthiest man of his family. Left<br />

all his esitate to Mark, younger son of his cosin, John Milbank of<br />

Thorp. 150<br />

1758. May 5. Dr. William Cowper, an eminent phisytian of<br />

Newcastle, fell from his horse, and, pitching on his temples, died on<br />

the spot. 1^1<br />

1758. May 6. <strong>The</strong> wife of Mr. Ra. Gowland brought to bed in<br />

the evening of her first son. <strong>The</strong> Abbey bells were rung next<br />

morning. Bomhalio, clangor, stridor, etc^^-<br />

1758. May 15. Died at his house in London, without issue,<br />

Ralph Jennison, esq., the last of his name at Walworth hall.<br />

1758. June 1. Died at London Major-General Hedworth Lambton,<br />

second, or next, brother of Henry Lambton, esq., and his corpse<br />

being brought into the <strong>country</strong> was buried in the family vault in<br />

the church of Chest er-le-Street, on Frj^day, 16 June.<br />

Last week, died at his seat at Barningham, Mark Milbank, esq. Newcastle<br />

Couravt. fith May, 1758.<br />

1750. Dec. 27. Will of Mark Milbank of Barningham, esq. None of my<br />

relations but onlj' my servants to attend my l)ody to the burial. My lands at<br />

Ray, Blaukhall and Horn-castle, parish of Kirk Whelpington, Northumberland,<br />

to my godson, Mark Milbank abo my lands at Barningham and Newsham. To<br />

my sister Elizabeth Milbank £500. To my uncle Thomas Davison, esq., £20.<br />

To my aunts Mary and Timothea Davison £20 each. To my godson Robson<br />

Milbank £20. To my godson Mark Eden £20. To my goddaughter Judith<br />

Baker £20. To my goddaughter Jane Routh £20. To the poor householders<br />

in the parish of Barningham £20. Residue to Mark Milbank and my sister<br />

Elizabeth Milbank, they executors. Proved at York, •-'4th May, 1770. Raine,<br />

an eminent physician of this place, a gentleman whose good nature and unbounded<br />

benevolence procured him the respect and esteem of all ranks of<br />

people Few men were ever better beloved and fewer still whose death<br />

can be a greater loss to society, to his friends and to his family. Newcastle<br />

Dr. Cooper, the only surviving son of William Cooper of Berwick, M.D.,by his<br />

first wife Ann, daughter of Anthonj'^ Compton of Berwick, was baptized there on<br />

the 3rd Febrmiry, 1698/9, and was educated at the viniversity of Leyden, where<br />

he graduated. By his marriage with Mary, daughter and co-heiress of Edward<br />

Grey of Alnwick, he not onl}' acquired some property at Bilton Banks in the<br />

parish of Lesbury, but a connection with the distinguislied family of Gvey of<br />

Howick. His widow died at her house in Pilgrim Street, Newcastle, on the<br />

23rd February, 1762. Dr. Cooper's eldest son. Grey Cooper of the Inner Temple,<br />

barrister-at-law, successfully revived in himself a dormant Nova Scotia<br />

baronetcy. He took an active part in politics, held various lucrative appointments,<br />

and is said to have left £9,000 per annum to his heir.<br />

'" Saturday last, the lady of Ralph Gowland, esq., was safely delivered of a<br />

son, at his house in Durham, to the great joy of the family. Newcastle Courant^<br />

13th May, 1758.<br />

Mr. Ral])h (Rowland was elected M.P. for the city of Durham at a bj'-<br />

election, 12tli December, 1761, but was ousted on petition. He was elected<br />
