1786. May 12. Died at Alnwick, the Rev. Mr. Monteath, a<br />

dissenting minister, aged 60. ^^<br />

sold well for the farmers, the price upon an average at or above 5s.<br />

per stone : and lean cattle likewi.s.e sold tolerably : deemed the best<br />

1786. June 6. Died at Sion, near London, the Rt. Hon. Hugh<br />

Percy, Duke of Northumberland, aged 74. His coi^ps lies in state<br />

twelve days. By the death of the Duke, Lord Algernon Percy, second<br />

son, is created Lord Lovaine and Baron of Alnwick, so he is entitled to<br />

a seat in the House of Peers, wherel)y he being a member of Parliament<br />

for Northumberland, his seat becomes vacant in the House of<br />

Commons, so that a new member must be elected in his stead.<br />

Married, John Lowes, esq., of Ridley-hall, to Miss Stott, daughter<br />

of the Rev. Mr. Stott, in Galway, N.B.i«<br />

Mr. George Bowe, sometime chaplain 60th Foot, was presented to the<br />

vicarage of Sliilbottle in 1788. He married Elizabeth, daughter of John Skelly,<br />

vicar of Stockton, by his wife Lady Betty Gordon, daughter of the second Duke<br />

of Gordon, and died at Shilbottle on the '21st April, 1803, aged 55 years.<br />

Nicholas Grey was presumably grandson of Nicholas Grey, butcher,<br />

drover, and inn keeper at Long Houghton, and afterwards of Alnwick, butcher,<br />

who was baptized at Long Houghton, 13 April, 1686, being the eldest child of<br />

Peter Grey of Boulmer, 'gentleman and inn keeper,' who, 16 June, 1685, had<br />

married Rachel Dowell, Loiuj Houghton Registers.
