Hobsoii, died at Hichniond of a leaver. (Married Nov. 30, ante.)<br />

1757. Ai)ril 2. Mrs. Jenny Lanibton'-*'^ died at her mother's<br />

house at Harraton. She had indulged herselfe the use of strong<br />

liquors which, it's i)resunied, ha.stened her end. She was the only<br />

surviving sister of Henry Lanibton, esq.<br />

1757. May 9. My niece Buckton came to the boarding-school<br />

at Durham.<br />

1757. May 13. Dr. Hunter, liis wife and son left Durham and<br />

went to live at Unthank, an estate belonging to Mrs. Hunter. ^^^<br />

1757. May 29. Christopher Fawcet,^^^ esq., of Newcastle, married<br />

to Miss Lambert, daughter of Dr. Lambert, of the same place.<br />

1757. July 10. Died at Durham Mr. Robert Brass, commonly<br />

called Major Brass. i^*' He was of the family of Flass near Durham.<br />

1757. July 12. Died at Unthank my uncle. Dr. Christopher<br />

Hunter, i-^' in ye 82nd year of his age, in the night between the 12th<br />

and 13th: and was buried on the 15th in Shotley church, com.<br />

Northmnberland. He left Elizalieth, his widow, and Thomas, his<br />

only surviving child, and a grand-daughter, the only child of his son<br />

John, deceased.<br />

"' Doctor Christopher Hunter's wife was Elizabeth, daughter and (with her<br />

sister, Isabella, wife of Gabriel K'eed of 'I'roughend) coheir of John Elrington<br />

of Espershields, and of Unthank in the township of Shotley Low Quarter.<br />

'" Mr. Christopher Faweett, son of John Fawcett of the citj- of Durham (cf.<br />

p. 20S, )>o->t), was entered to Gray's Inn, '27th N(>veml)er, 17"28, and matriculated<br />

at Exeter College, Oxford, •2nd May, 17"29. He was Recorder of Newcastle<br />

from 1746 to 1753, and again from 176!) to 1794. He died 10th Ma\-, 1795<br />

(Xeiccwtle C'oiirant, 16th May, 179.">). His wife was Winifred, daughter of<br />

Cuthhert Lambert, M. 0., and she was married at St. Andrew's, Newcastle.<br />

Bailey, Durham.<br />

He maj- be identified with Robert, son of Mr. Thomas Brass by his wife<br />

Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Robert Leyton of East Leyton (Harrison. Yorkshire,<br />

p. 329), baptized at St. Oswald's, Durham, 13th March, 1682 3, and with the<br />

person of that name who was married in that church, 25th June, 1707, to Mrs.<br />

Elizabeth Burton. She died 1st March, 1761, see p. 209, post. Cf. Surtees,<br />

Christopher Hunter, son of Tiiomas Hunter of Mudomsley, was educated<br />

'^'<br />

at Houghton-le-Spring school, and also at St. John's College, Cambridge, to<br />

which he was admitted on the 11th April, 1693, being then 18 years of age. In<br />

1701 he took out a licence to practise as physician and established himself at<br />

Stockton, where his eldest son Thomas is said to have V)een born. He atterwanls<br />

resided at Durham, and became a distinguished archaeoloijist. Some of<br />

his MSS. collections are preserved in the Cathedral library at Durham. Dr.<br />

Hunter's son, Thomas Hunter, who died at Unthank, was imried at Shotley<br />

on the 16th October, 1770, leaving issue. For a pedigree of Hunter, see Surtees,<br />

Mr. John York, .son of Thomas York of (ioullhwaite and of Richmond,<br />
