eldest of the Morrick family, aged 49.<br />

1785. Dec. 8. Died at Newcastle, Joseph Reay, esq., a benevolent<br />

man and a good christian, aged 73.^<br />

1785. Dec. 12. It's confidently asserted that Earl Mansfield<br />

intends retiring and resign the dignity Lord Chief Justice of the<br />

Court of King's Bench.<br />

1785. Dec. 17. Died at Wallsend, Matthew Waters, esq., and<br />

barrister-at-law which he declined some years ago, aged 66."<br />

John Bacon Forster was the second son of John William Bacon of Staward<br />

and Styford, who succeeded to the estates of the Forsters of Adderston, and<br />

assumed the name of Forster. He married first, Elizabeth Hunt whose death<br />

in childbed is recorded in the text ; secondly, Sarah Beaver ; and thirdly, Mary<br />

Lilliatt Drinkwater. Descendants of the second marriage are believed to be<br />

living.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Nevcastle Courant of 10 December, 1785, states that Mr. G. D. Shafto<br />

and Miss Hester Charlton were married at Edinburgh on the 30th November<br />

by Dr. Robertson. Cf. pedigree of Shafto of Bavington, new Hi-story of<br />

Northumberlahd, vol. iv. p. 417.<br />

* This was Margaret daughter of Mr. John Grey of M or wick. She was<br />

baptized at Wark worth on the 8th July, 1735, died at the house of her<br />

brother-in-law John Grey, at Alnwick, and was buried at Warkworth.<br />

^ Mr. Joseph Reay was admitted free of the Merchants' Companj^, Newcastle,<br />

on the 25 May, 1741, by patrimony, as son of Henry Reay, merchant<br />

adventurer, deceased. <strong>The</strong> Neirca-ft/e L'oiirant of 17 December, 1785, states<br />

that he was buried at South Church, Bishop Auckland.<br />

Matthew Waters of Wallsend was admitted to Lincoln's Inn on the 31st<br />

May, 1743. <strong>The</strong> Ntircaxtle Courant of 24 December, 17S5, states that he was<br />

buried in the family vault at All Saints Church, Newcastle.<br />
