Non-Standard Video Card
Your PC may have a non-standard video card which has a
“HIGH SPEED DECODE” or “FAST DECODE MODE” enabled
which prevents any card from utilizing space in the upper
memory blocks. Consult your video card manual, the
manufacturer, or see your dealer to determine proper jumper
settings for disabling this feature.
Bus Speed
Some BIOS’s allow non-standard AT bus speeds which are not
compatible with AT cards, so that the CS8012 may show a
MEMORY FAIL due to incorrect bus clock selection. The
compatible AT standard bus speed is 8.3 MHz.
The BIOS setting may vary with the manufacturer, however,
so you need to find the appropriate line in the advanced
chipset. The Phoenix BIOS setup is one example:
System timing: AT clk select [Pclk/4]
where Pclk is the Processor clock speed. On a 66 MHz
system, Pclk is 33 MHz, so the setting should be:
System timing: AT clk select [Pclk/4]
(33MHz / 4) = 8.3 MHz
Other BIOS’s may allow you to set the AT bus speed to 8
MHz.
Running GSINST from within Windows
If you have been running GSINST from within Windows, try
closing Windows and running GSINST directly from MS-DOS.
