e. Make sure the students understand that they will be developing two bar
graphs; one for hand length and one for hand width.
f. As students are developing their bar graph, ask the following: ―What is the
independent variable and dependent variable‖ The measurements of the
width and length are the independent variables and the number of times
that measurement appeared is the dependent variable. Remind students to
make sure that the graph has a title and that both axes are labeled clearly.
What the teacher will do:
a. Use the questions, found in the Observations/Data Analysis, to assess
student understanding of the activity.
b. Have students develop a written report in which they summarize the results
of this investigation. In this report, they should give possible explanations
for their findings by making connections to the NGSSS and mention any
recommendations for further study in this investigation.
