<strong>Daimler</strong> in China:<br />
well positioned in the<br />
world’s biggest automobile market<br />
The outlook is excellent: China has been posting dazzling<br />
double-digit growth rates for several years — and <strong>Daimler</strong> is<br />
already operating successfully in the world’s biggest automobile<br />
market. Mercedes-Benz cars and vans are produced<br />
locally.<br />
We have developed a pioneering strategy for placing our<br />
activities in China on an even broader foundation. In addition<br />
to the significant expansion of car and van production, this<br />
strategy includes the joint venture for commercial vehicles<br />
established with Foton Motor in <strong>2011</strong>. The new joint venture<br />
will build medium and heavy-duty Auman brand trucks that<br />
will be fitted with Mercedes-Benz engines.<br />
Zero-emission mobility in China with <strong>Daimler</strong><br />
The approval of the joint venture Shenzhen BYD <strong>Daimler</strong><br />
New Technology Co., Ltd. (BDNT) was another milestone<br />
for <strong>Daimler</strong> in <strong>2011</strong>. <strong>Daimler</strong> and its partner BYD are<br />
working together in the new joint venture to develop an<br />
electric vehicle for the Chinese market.<br />
BDNT will unveil a show car of the new automobile at<br />
Auto China in April 2012. It will be launched under a new<br />
brand name in 2013.<br />
Act locally<br />
The Viano is another one of our vehicles that meets all of the Chinese<br />
customers’ requirements, including the demand for outstanding<br />
Mercedes-Benz quality and local production.<br />
