1988 to discuss the use of biotechnology for the improvement of
cassava, yams, and plantin. This volume of selected contributions by
the participants was published to promote awareness of African
initiatives in the subject field and to broaden the base for collaboration.

Training Opportunities at IITA

Training is one of IITA's principal means of "Transferring technology"
in agricultural to African tropical developing countries. Training can
help in building national capabilities for agricultural research and
food production. IlTA offers several degree-related and non-degreerelated
training activities within its research program on cassava,
cowpea, maize, soybean, yam, plantain and biological control of
insect pests, and research farm management.
