Introduction<br />

The Winrock <strong>International</strong> Institute for Agricultural Development was<br />

established in 1985, and incoporates more than 50 years <strong>of</strong> combined<br />

organizational experience in providing technical assistance<br />

and pr<strong>of</strong>essional expertiseto international agricultural development.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> largest independent entities engaged in international<br />

agricultural development, Winrock <strong>International</strong> was created throughs<br />

<strong>the</strong> merging <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Agricultural Development Center (A/D/C), <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>International</strong> Agricultural Development Service (IADS), and <strong>the</strong> Winrock<br />

<strong>International</strong> Livestock Research and Training Center. Winrock<br />

<strong>International</strong> is an autonomous, nonpr<strong>of</strong>it corporation.<br />

Mission<br />

Winrock <strong>International</strong>’s mission is to help people around <strong>the</strong> world by<br />

increasing agricultural productivity and improving nutrition. Since agricultural<br />

development is by its nature a team effort, cooperative<br />

relationships are <strong>the</strong> key to its success. Accordingly, Winrock staff<br />

members work with host governments, private voluntary organizations,<br />

producer groups, and o<strong>the</strong>rs to provide research and analysis,<br />

education and training, technical assistance, and communications<br />

services. Areas <strong>of</strong> emphasis are human resources, renewable resources,<br />

food policy, animal agriculture and farming systems, and<br />

agricultural research and extension.<br />
