General Information<br />

The <strong>International</strong> Council for Research in Agr<strong>of</strong>orestry (ICRAF) is an<br />

autonomous, non-pr<strong>of</strong>it research organization, established in 1977,<br />

with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. ICRAF is supported by voluntary<br />

contributions from bilateral, multilateral and private organizations,<br />

and is governed by a Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees with equal representation<br />

from developed and developing countries.<br />

ICRAF’s mandate is to initiate, stimulate and support research leading<br />

to more sustainable and productive land use in developing<br />

countries through <strong>the</strong> integration or better management <strong>of</strong> trees in<br />

land-use systems. In support <strong>of</strong> this mandate, ICRAF’s strategy is:<br />

• To develop <strong>the</strong> scientific discipline <strong>of</strong> agr<strong>of</strong>orestry and maintain<br />

ICRAF’s leading position in this field,<br />

• To cooperate with national institutions in building <strong>the</strong>ir capability<br />

to design and implement agr<strong>of</strong>orestry research programmes<br />

and to work with <strong>the</strong>m in generating relevant and promising<br />

agr<strong>of</strong>orestry technologies,<br />

• To promote <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> appropriate agr<strong>of</strong>orestry systems and<br />

technologies as tools for national development.<br />

ICRAF’s programme <strong>of</strong> work iscarried out through four divisions: <strong>the</strong><br />

Research Development Division (RDD), <strong>the</strong> Collaborative Programmes<br />

Division (COLLPRO), <strong>the</strong> Information and Communications<br />

Division (INFOCOMM) and <strong>the</strong> Finance and Administration Division.<br />

HOW TO ORDER ICRAF PUBLICATIONS<br />

ICRAF publications are available from <strong>the</strong> Editorial Assistant. Payment<br />

in convertible currency may be made by cheque, international<br />

money order, telegraphictransfer or bankers cheque, payable to <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>International</strong> Council for Research in Agr<strong>of</strong>orestry.<br />

Research and development institutions in developing countries may<br />

order single copies <strong>of</strong> individual titles free <strong>of</strong> charge, and libraries in<br />

developing countries may obtain free copies <strong>of</strong> all available publications.<br />
