interest in the marvels of radio be aroused,"<br />
he says. "<strong>Radio</strong> is the coming science, and<br />
if its disciples attain as much practical experience<br />
and grounding in electrical principles as<br />
is possible to crowd into their lives, they can<br />
be sure of making progress."<br />
During the war, Professor Pupin did research<br />
work for the United States Government<br />
in radio communication. His results became<br />
government secrets and outside of the. fact<br />
that his war activities necessitated many trips<br />
to Key West, the world knows nothing of his<br />
work. As a product of his activity at this<br />
time, he helped organize the third arm Of our<br />
national defence the National Research<br />
Council, an organization of scientific men<br />
with headquarters in Washington.<br />
The story of America contains many epics of<br />
boys who, beginning at the bottom, struggled<br />
to the top, but none illustrates more clearly<br />
than this one the chances for a penniless,<br />
working boy to achieve a technical education<br />
and to become a power in the scientific<br />
world.<br />
