PLT8044 Pilot-1 “Wedell-Williams Model 44” 1/8 Scale ARF .................. $149.99
In the late 1920's and early 30's air racing was huge in the United States. Racing pioneers like Granville, Rider, Laird, Howard and Curtiss were
familiar names, but there was no one who had more success than Jimmy Wedell and his Wedell-Williams racers, particularly the Model 44. In the
year's 1931-34, Jimmy Wedell's Model 44 placed in the top three in the Thompson Trophy Race 7 times, including 2 wins.
40" wingspan, 31" long, 325 sq. in. wing area, 35 oz. flying weight. Our model 44 captures the look and excitement of this classic airplane in a
modern laser cut ARF. We combined racer looks with sport flyer handling for an easy to fly, easy to build airplane. Model is all laser cut balsa and
ply construction, pre-covered in genuine Oracover. Cowl is pre-finished fiberglass, wheel pants are molded plastic. Includes flying wires, tail braces,
pre-bent wire landing gear, steerable tail wheel and hardware. Easy access to the flight batteries under the magnetic battery hatch in the fuselage.
Photo illustrated instructions included, assembly time approximately 8-12 hours. While not suitable for the novice, the Model 44 is an easy plane to
fly. Anyone with some aileron airplane experience should not have any problems flying this airplane. Our recommended power system provides
plenty of power for quick take-offs and powerful climbouts. All regular aerobatic maneuvers are easily performed with this airplane. Its light wing
loading makes it easy to slow down for landing. For 4-channels: Ailerons (2 servos), Elevator, Rudder and Throttle.
Teaching kids about Aviation
Every summer the Warner Park Nature Center puts on all kinds of
outdoor activities and learning opportunities for the local kids of
Nashville. Parents can sign their kids up for all kinds of eagerly
awaited programs that last all summer long. June 24th was Astronomy,
Space, and Model Aviation Day. Hobby Lobby and the Edwin Warner
Aviators have participated in this program for years. This year the
weather was perfect and there were 92 kids in attendance. The kids are
divided into several groups and then spend around half an hour or so at
thedifferent space, astronomy, and model aviation stations. At the
modelaviation station, the kids are introduced to the basics of flight with
a short discussion. It’s fun to see how intrigued they are. Then we
show them what we mean with our aircraft. Mike Hines and I brought
alongseveral of our jets and prop planes as well as the huge 12 Foot
Telemaster ARF. Some of the kids wanted to catch a ride in it! I brought along some parachute guys and we dropped
them out of the Telemaster several times and let the kids chase them down. They loved that! A few of the guys from
the club brought some foamy combat planes. This was awesome! It looked liked they kit bashed several different kits
to get a flying machine together. The kids really enjoyed watching combat and especially the crashes that followed.
It’s really a privilege for us to be
there to spark some interest and
excitement about aviation in so
many kids. If you’re in the area
