Impressive bathroom of Stancija Meneghetti
ry shooting cultural monuments and lousy panoramas
with your new digital camera. And certainly you don’t
want to buy unnecessary things and souvenirs that actually
came from Asia. That is why this time you choose to
spend your vacation on – a rural tourist estate - in Istria.
In Istria you can choose from around two hundred rural
estates on which you will enjoy in “slowing down”. You
can choose from luxury villas for rest, village cottages,
small family hotels and apartments of rural style where
diligent hosts will greet you, both in architectural and
culinary sense, with the fruits of their own work.
And exactly everywhere you will get what you are
came for – a time for yourself, return to the nature and
detachment from the daily routine. If you want you may
participate in events in the village.
Not only that hosts welcome you on their estate together
with their family and offer you local food with fresh
ingredients, but you can enjoy in clean air, you can go
for vintage, pick olives, truffles and other fruits of the season,
go for hunting or fishing, cycling to be back in fit
condition, hiking; you can learn how to cook traditional
meals which somebody once prepared and you forgot
to ask for that extraordinary recipe...
These are only the first letters of rural tourism alphabet
without which there is no rural tourism to be spoken
about. Initiation of organised rural tourism was predictable.
A human stampede during the tourist season, not
having a respect for its host, has already become undesirable.
As the mass tourism brought with it numerous
problems like pollution and overbooking of hotels, the
rural tourism developed as a natural reaction to the
consequences.
It started to develop at the middle of the last century in
Austria, which rural economies were threatened with an
24
emigration of people and consequently a collapse. And
while at the time alpine areas were undeveloped, now
their main “promoter” are the same rural economies.
In Croatia a similar trend appeared during nineties of the
last century, but rural tourism has been experiencing real
blooming for the last few years. In comparison with other
parts of Croatia, Istria has advanced in the field owing to
its excellent geographic position and natural giftedness.
Istria, due to its closeness to Italy, Austria and Germany,
where the majority of foreign tourists visiting Croatia are
coming from, very quickly became a leader in rural tourism
of the region.
On this, the largest Adriatic green peninsula all elements
needed for this kind of tourism came together – mild microclimate
with more than two thousand of sunny hours
per year is the major characteristic of the peninsula
which is the link between Mediterranean and continental
and middle European area. In other words - the sea,
meadows, mountains and well-indented coast – all that
you will see if you happen to visit Istria.
Where will you go precisely, depends, in the first place,
how much you are ready to pay. The only thing you need
not to worry about is the season of the year because
majority of rural estates stay open for guest throughout
the year.
If you want luxury, the right place would be Stancija
Meneghetti. This luxury property is located between
Pula and Rovinj, in the inland of Istria, only 2 kilometres
from the sea, opposite of Brijuni islands. On 120 thousand
square metres there is an authentic Istrian house (stancija)
built in the twenties of the last century. The villa for
ten persons was recently completely renovated, luxury
decorated, surrounded by olive-grove, vineyards and
Mediterranean macchia.
