APPENDIX 1/5: TESTING TO BE CARRIED OUT BY THE CONTRACTOR
General
1. The Contractor shall carry out testing in accordance with Table 1/5 in this Appendix.
2. Tests comparable to those specified in this Appendix will be necessary for any equivalent work,
goods or materials proposed by the Contractor (see Clause 105.4).
3. (N) indicates that a UKAS (NAMAS) sampling and test report or certificate is required.
4. Unless otherwise shown in this Appendix test certificates for work, goods on materials as
scheduled under any one Clause are required for all such work, goods or materials in the Works.

6. All laboratory testing shall be carried out by a testing house which is independent of the
Contractor and is not within the same group of companies as the Contractor.
7. Special National Alterations of the Overseeing Departments of Scotland, Wales or Northern
Ireland are to be regarded as part of the main Specification clauses for the purposes of testing.
8. Cube strengths are not required for concrete complying with Clause 2602.
9. The main specification for testing is the Specification for Highways Works. Testing under Series
500 will also require testing as detailed in the Civil Engineering Specification for the Water
Industry 6 th Edition June 2004.
