o General: Remove subsoil, stones, debris, wrapping material, canes, ties,
temporary labelling, prunings and other arisings/ rubbish.
PREPARATION OF PLANTING BEDS/ PLANTING MATERIALS
300 HERBICIDE
o Locations: All planted areas.
o Type: Suitable for suppressing perennial weed
o Timing: Allow fallow period before cultivation.
o Duration: (minimum): As manufacturers recommendations.
335 GENERAL FERTILIZER
o Locations: All areas to be planted.
o Manufacturer: As approved by CA.
o Product reference: As approved by CA.
o Application: Spread evenly.
o Timing: Immediately before cultivation.
o Coverage: Evenly over all areas to be planted at 30g/sq m.
375 CULTIVATION
o Compacted topsoil: Break up to full depth.
o Cultivation: Loosen, aerate and break up soil into particles of 2-8 mm.
o Depth: Top 350mm of planting beds.
o Timing: Within a few days before planting.
o Weather and ground conditions: Suitably dry.
o Surface: Leave regular and even.
o As required in sections D20 and Q28.
o Levels: Within 50mm of levels specified on drawings.
o Undesirable material brought to the surface: Remove, including weeds, roots,
stones and clods larger than 20 mm in any dimension, tufts of grass and foreign
matter.
o Soil within root spread of trees and shrubs to be retained: Do not dig or
cultivate.

o Timing: Lay after cultivating and before planting
o Watering: Water soil thoroughly before laying.
