About the Authors<br />

Stefan Bielański, is a professor at the Institute of Political Sciences<br />

of Pedagogical University (UP) in Kraków and Director of the<br />

International Center for Research “Mediterraneum” (Pedagogical<br />

University). From 2000 to 2014 he was a member of the Scientific<br />

Committee for the Master’s in European Studies: “The Process of<br />

Building Europe”. From 2014: a member of the Polish Geopolitical<br />

Society (PTG). He is the author of numerous books and articles.<br />

Carmen Claudín is a Senior Research Fellow Associate at CIDOB,<br />

Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, where she has been the<br />

Director of Research since 1998 and Deputy Director from September<br />

1999. She was awarded a MA in Philosophy from the Sorbonne,<br />

Paris, where she also specialized in Russian and Soviet history.<br />

Before moving to Barcelona, she lived in Moscow and Paris for<br />

several years. She is an expert on the Soviet system and an analyst of<br />

the post-Soviet area.<br />

Nicolás de Pedro is a Research Fellow at CIDOB (Barcelona Centre<br />

for International Affairs) where he is in charge of the post-Soviet<br />

space (Central Asia, Russia) and India. He is Associate Professor at<br />

the Institut Barcelona de d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) and Visiting<br />

Professor at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. He has<br />

participated in international Electoral Observation Missions for the<br />

OSCE in Russia (2011), Kyrgyzstan (2009, 2010), Tajikistan (2010)<br />

and Ukraine (2010, 2014). Furthermore, Nicolás has carried out<br />

fieldwork and travelled extensively throughout the Central Asian<br />

region and Xinjiang (China), including a 24-month stay in<br />

Kazakhstan (2005-2007).<br />
