2.1 SITE SELECTION CRITERIA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The proposed project site is located near village Mynkre, Taluka Khelirihat,
District Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya state, which is about 115 km from Shillong
on NH-44 (Shillong-Silchar Road).
The major criteria for locating a cement plant may be following:-
• Availability of limestone deposit close to the cement plant site location,
• The perennial source of water exists in the vicinity of the plant site,
• Availability of reliable power and fuel supply.
• The site is flat / slightly undulating area for plant.
• Proximity to an established township, which would offer reasonable
amenities to the plant employees.
• The site is well connected with National /State Highway and nearest to
the Khelirihat and have basic infrastructure for establishment of a
cement plant with captive power plant.
2.2 ANALYSIS OF ALTERNATIVES

SITE ALTERNATIVES
M/s HILLS CEMENT CO. LIMITED has proposed for setting up a
cement plant of 3,000TPD based on limestone deposits in the area
along with 10MW CPP. Required infrastructure, off-site facilities
including residential colony for the employees are also planned.
Alternative site near village Suruphi was considered.
The present site was selected having advantages and being more
eco-friendly.
The present site has the following advantages:
• Proximity to captive limestone mines
• Proximity to river for water intake
• Availability of fuel (Coal)
• Availability of adequate land for cement plant
• Proximity to National Highway (NH-44)
• Absence of any irrigation canal or drainage channel within the
selected area
