Some of them have already beencompleted, and some are <strong>at</strong>tended by workers in threedifferent shifts in order to meet the deadlines. Out of sevenhost cities for the World Championships, six of themare getting new sports facilities.Zagreb – ArenaLanište in Zagreb is probably the loc<strong>at</strong>ion for the biggest,hardest and most expensive construction oper<strong>at</strong>ion inCro<strong>at</strong>ia today. In addition to the sports arena, which hasbeen named “Arena Zagreb”, over a thousand residentialunits is also being built, as well as the enormous shoppingcentre named Arena Centre. The Arena is worth 87million Euros, and it is built by companies Ingra and Trigra-28nit according to the design project by a team from StudioUPI-2M, which also projected the abovementioned ArenaCentre. The construction work on Arena started in July2007, and the official opening ceremony is announcedfor l<strong>at</strong>e December of this year. Being th<strong>at</strong> this is a r<strong>at</strong>hershort deadline for such a complex construction project,the construction site is currently filled <strong>with</strong> 750 workers inthree different shifts.The multifunctional Arena Zagreb, <strong>with</strong> VIP sections andmedia premises, will have the capacity for 15.200 visitors,and it will be used for various sporting, cultural, entertainmentand business events after the World HandballChampionships. The facilities will be able to host competitionsin indoor football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton,wrestling, gymnastics, boxing, tennis and basketball,and there will also be an option of moving the telescopicse<strong>at</strong>ing section in order to cre<strong>at</strong>e room for an <strong>at</strong>hleticstrack, which will also be of the highest standard.The designers also left plenty of room for different rearrangementsin the arena, which will cre<strong>at</strong>e a possibility
