Sportski centar Ž<strong>at</strong>ika u Poreču / Sporting centre Ž<strong>at</strong>ika in PorečEventsAlto TradeThis new object, which covers about 20 thousand squaremetres, consists of two arenas: a larger one <strong>with</strong> 5000se<strong>at</strong>s, and a smaller one. Besides sports events, the CitySports Arena will also be used as a congress centre, andit will host various concerts, large media events, exhibits,various fashion shows etc.This arena also hosts a museum th<strong>at</strong> displays a part ofthe sports history in Varaždin and Cro<strong>at</strong>ia, including theOlympic section th<strong>at</strong> was don<strong>at</strong>ed by Artur Takač.The sports function is dominant, but it is not the only one.This arena fulfils all conditions for any indoor sport, especiallyhandball, volleyball and basketball. Numerousprogrammes are scheduled to take place in this building,including training sessions, educ<strong>at</strong>ional programmesand recre<strong>at</strong>ional sessions. The arena will also host variousstage events and g<strong>at</strong>herings <strong>with</strong> numerous participantsand a large audience. In addition to all th<strong>at</strong>,this multifunctional arena also fe<strong>at</strong>ures a bowling alley,wellness and fitness premises, sauna, massage room, VIProom, kitchen, restaurant, press centre and commercialpremises.In addition to the large parking area, the outside of thebuilding will also fe<strong>at</strong>ure a handball court, which will beturned into a sk<strong>at</strong>ing rink during the winter period. Theoutside area will also fe<strong>at</strong>ure tennis courts, volleyball andhandball courts on the sand, and a basketball court.Zadar – Krešimir Ćosić ArenaAlong <strong>with</strong> Split, Zadar is the second Dalm<strong>at</strong>ian city th<strong>at</strong>will host some of the games <strong>at</strong> the World Championships.The construction process on this arena, which carriesthe name of legendary Cro<strong>at</strong>ian basketball playerKrešimir Ćosić, had started back in 2004, and was finishedthis spring. The project in Zadar is slightly differentfrom the other host cities because this project doesn’tjust include one arena, but a huge sports-recre<strong>at</strong>ionalcentre Višnjik, which is worth about 30 million Euros. Itconsists of two objects: an indoor swimming arena anda multifunctional sports arena (Krešimir Ćosić), and abrand-new basketball arena.Besides the main arena, which has the capacity for8600 people, and its accompanying complex, fourmore multifunctional arenas <strong>with</strong> additional complexesare being built. The semi-circular, shell-shaped arena<strong>with</strong> a cupola was projected by Marijan Hržić, whilethe construction works were performed by companyLavčević-Engineering. The indoor arena <strong>with</strong> a swimmingpool, projected by Nikola Bašić, has 33x25-metredimensions, and the pool will be used for all w<strong>at</strong>ersports. The Krešimir Ćosić Arena, however, is a circulararena <strong>with</strong> a 30-metre-high cupola, and it will host basketballand handball games, as well as tennis tournaments.It is a modern building in which the <strong>at</strong>hletes, accordingto the people of Zadar, will play their games<strong>with</strong> gre<strong>at</strong> joy, while the audience will have a splendidtime enjoying sporting spectacles in such an environment.At the north side of the arena, there is a parkingspace <strong>with</strong> room 450 cars.31
