September 10, 2001 MAINTENANCE MANUAL 5-791.312_________________________________________________________________________________________________5-791.312 CLEAN-UP OPERATION PRIORITIESClean-up operations may start as soon as bare lanes have been obtained and maintained and the event has subsided unless adverseweather warrants a change. Based upon past experiences, the efficiency of workers and equipment reliability decreases significantlyduring adverse weather conditions (Ex. Temperature below –20 degrees F, Freezing Rain, etc.).All safety features along the roadway shall be cleaned up as soon as possible so they function properly. Priority A clean-up will becompleted according to the schedule referenced in section 5-791.310, B. Operational Guidelines.CLEAN-UP PRIORITIES:Priority A – (1) Remove compacted snow from impact attenuators, bridge crash rails, Jersey barriers, plate beams or similar typeswhen it averages 2/3 the height of the barrier.(2) Sight distance clean-up as shown on the following four examples will be accomplished at the same time as mainlineoperations. Each maintenance area may designate other intersections for sight distance clean-up if the conditionswarrant prompt attention.a. 4-Lane with2-Lane(Unsignalized)b. Diamond(Unsignalized)c. Cloverleaf d. 2-LaneTrunk <strong>Highway</strong> toTrunk <strong>Highway</strong>Intersection(Unsignalized)(3) If inadequate snow storage exists such that the flow of traffic is impeded, then the operations of removing snow byplowing or hauling should be conducted on the same schedule as mainline operations.Note:Priority B – (1)For Priority A Clean-up, crews will continue working the same schedule as the mainline, but the schedule may beadjusted for traffic safety.If the previous four examples are signalized or are non T.H. at-grade intersecting roadways, clean-up will be doneduring the normal work schedule.(2) The clearing of full width shoulders and cable guardrail will be accomplished during the normal work schedule.Priority C -Priority D -Drift prevention for future storms will be accomplished during the normal work schedule.Regaining snow storage space for future storms will be done during the normal work schedule
