PRDA <strong>Manual</strong> 3Objectives of PRDA• identify the main limiting factors, how they are related <strong>and</strong> theopportunities for increased productivity <strong>and</strong> sustainability of anirrigated agricultural system;• evaluate extension <strong>and</strong> other supporting services provided to farmers;• identify practical steps <strong>and</strong> interventions to improve performance;• describe the main characteristics of selected irrigated agriculturalsystems in order to enable more extensive monitoring of performancein the future.How to use this manualThe Rapid Diagnosis <strong>and</strong> Action Planning for Irrigated Agricultural Systemsis explained in a practical manner. Chapter 2 summarizes the overall method<strong>and</strong> different steps of the process. It also explains how it relates to training. InChapter 3 the constituents of irrigation systems are introduced <strong>and</strong> are usedthroughout the PRDA. Chapter 4 <strong>and</strong> chapter 5 give information for <strong>org</strong>anizinga PRDA <strong>and</strong> some practical tips <strong>and</strong> advice to conduct a PRDA. The tools thatwill be used during the PRDA are described in annex A. People with previousPRA experience can use this annex as a revision exercise <strong>and</strong> develop checklistsfor interviews. Finally in annex B, a series of Reporting Sheets are provided towrite down <strong>and</strong> analyse results after fieldwork.
