Internship placement will be made only if the studentpasses an interview and acquires the approval <strong>of</strong> the prospective host organization. Internshipplacements may include but are not limited to the following areas: Cultural criticism and publishing Film and media Cultural curatorship and management Cultural innovation/activism, non-government organizations Teaching and creative educationPrerequisite: A minimum cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.9 is normally required. Students with a lower GPAmay also be admitted with the consent <strong>of</strong> the instructorNote: This is a capstone learning course which students should take in the second semester <strong>of</strong> the third<strong>year</strong>, the summer semester <strong>of</strong> their third <strong>year</strong> (if it is <strong>of</strong>fered) or the fourth <strong>year</strong>. It is for ComparativeLiterature majors only.Assessment: 100% coursework.CLIT3020.Independent research (6 credits)This course aims at providing well-prepared Comparative Literature majors in the final <strong>year</strong> anopportunity to pursue a research topic under the supervision <strong>of</strong> a teacher. It contributes to the capstonelearning experience <strong>of</strong> major students in Comparative Literature majors. It helps students advancetheir skills in doing research for disciplinary and interdisciplinary topics in literary and culturalstudies. <strong>The</strong> contact hours are minimal (10-14 hours for a 6-credit course) and will include teaching <strong>of</strong>research method and discussion <strong>of</strong> work-in-progress. Students will undertake independent researchand writing. Assessment is through a single research essay or an undergraduate dissertation <strong>of</strong>approximately 7,000 words. <strong>The</strong> research courses require students to have a final <strong>year</strong> ComparativeLiterature Departmental major status, a GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.25 or above, and lecturer approval upon the receipt<strong>of</strong> a research proposal <strong>of</strong> approximately 1,000 words and a working bibliography at least one monthprior to the semester when the course is taken.Prerequisite: 6-credits <strong>of</strong> first <strong>year</strong> Comparative Literature course and 12 credits <strong>of</strong> designatedsecond <strong>year</strong> foundational Comparative Literature courses; a minimum cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.25 isnormally required.Note:This is a capstone learning course which students should take in their third or fourth <strong>year</strong>. It isfor Comparative Literature majors only.Assessment: 100% coursework.CLIT3021.Advanced studies in theory and cultural analysis (6 credits)This course serves as an advanced, undergraduate study <strong>of</strong> select traditions or problems within thefields <strong>of</strong> “theory” and cultural analysis.
