Mindset Masters Let’s delve into the fundamental differences. To me, there is a distinct difference between a business owner and an entrepreneur. This will be a recurring theme throughout this concept. One thing first, before I get hate letters about being anti-­‐employment. This can apply to an employee situation, too, and it is just easier to plan your life if you have some semblance of control. As an employee you are on their ship, you are not commanding you own, unless you take an attitude of free agent to the job. An old friend and colleague of mine used to spout this attitude all the time, “I’m a free agent, baby!” He would persistently remind his leadership at his J.O.B. of this to keep them on their toes and to remind himself that no matter what, he was not stuck or beholden to them. It is such a different way of thinking that I stuffed that golden nugget away. Now you have it, too. Only a handful of super successful employees become independently wealthy, and most of them are too old to enjoy it by the time it grows. That’s called retirement. It’s also typically called too late. My premise is to design your life now and live it now and become independently wealthy sooner rather than later. Sound good? Good, read on… An entrepreneur is an opportunity seeker, a capitalist and a perpetual or serial creator of revenue streams. A business owner is married to a business (a.k.a., job). They work a job at a business they own. An employee is simply a resource leveraged by a business to get a job done in exchange at a positive return on cost -­‐ money for hours or better yet, money for results. This hierarchy of sorts: Entrepreneur, Business Owner and employee typically follow a lifestyle freedom curve along these 9
