The first day of the worst recession in 80 years. And there I was, boxing up my belongings, and saying goodbye to the co-­‐workers that I’d worked with for the previous 7 years. Up until then, the company had been good to me, and I went around shaking hands to ensure the owners knew I had appreciated working for them. And most of them looked me in the eye saying, “Thanks, we’ll miss you.” Except for the big guy – the head honcho – he wouldn’t even shake my hand. So there I went…gone from the company, forgotten like yesterday’s garbage. That night, as I drove home from the corporate office for the last time, I felt a little lost. What would I do the next morning when I woke up? How would I move on after leaving the perceived safety of the corporate world, with a recession staring me straight in the face? How would I conquer the fear that wanted to overtake everything? On the surface it seems like a tragedy.
