Mindset Masters StopGettingStuck.com, and she’s helped stretch me beyond the barriers of my perfectionism. The truth is, your “good enough” is probably more spectacular than most people’s “perfectionism.” If you allow perfectionism to rule you, you’ll never accomplish your project. Do what you have to do to grow past it so you can finish what you start! Idea Bin Another reason we don’t finish what we start is because as we delve into that chosen project, another fantastic idea sparks and takes over our thoughts. Worried we may forget about it, we take action, or at least start it, immediately. This derails our progression toward our goal of finishing the current project and usually spurs even more ideas that demand our attention. My solution to this dilemma is to keep an “idea bin,” literally a box, where I can store all my ideas. They’re out of mind, but not forgotten, and not in my face screaming for attention when I’m trying to devote my time to finish what I initially started. Reward Finishing a project can be its own reward, but often that project is too big to finish in an afternoon, so project completion gratification sits out in La La Land waiting to be discovered. Instead, set small, actionable goals and reward yourself with something you enjoy when you complete that goal. For example, if I have a goal of writing three chapters of my next book, I may tell myself that if I get those three chapters written before 4:00 pm, I’ll treat myself to a movie on Netflix or at the $1.50 theater around the corner. I love movies, so this is a simple reward I can give myself for completing that goal. On the flip side, if I don’t accomplish that goal in the specified time frame, even if I finish it at 4:05, I don’t get to see a movie until I finish my next goal. When you finally finish a project, you’ll be overwhelmed with a sense of joy and accomplishment. You can choose to relax into that joy or apply the positive energy toward the next project on your Project 80
