Goalkeeper with stick in his hand exercisesby clearing shots with his stick on the lefthand side starting with an imaginary shot onthe ice and moving up to head level. This ismoving the stick from the front of the padsout and then going higher and higher backand forth as quickly as possible. The samething should be done on the opposite side.32. Two goalkeepers squat facing one anotherand using two tennis balls, throw back andforth. Goalkeepers should move from thesquat position to one leg out; then the otherleg out; to the butterfly position; to standingup; to the crouch.34. Using a medicine ball, two players will squatfacing each other five feet apart. Throwmedicine ball back and forth from a squatposition.For the following exercises, the goalie shouldhave his/her stick and glove and the partnershould have tennis balls and racquet. All moves bythe goalkeeper should be practiced with glovesand stick on the ground.Shadow Drill1. Goalie moves in response to partner’s handor racquet movement. Moves should bedone as quickly as possible by both thepartner and the goalie.31. Using a team handball or volleyball, thepartner rolls the ball at the goalkeeper whohas to stop the ball with the stick and thenclear it to the side. You can increase thespeed of the rolls as goalie becomes moreproficient.33. Goalkeeper without stick but with goaliegloves. The partner standing behind thegoalkeeper, both facing the same way, dropsthe ball over the goalie’s shoulder or head.Goalie has to react to the bounce, grab theball and clear to the side. (Goalie’s eyesshould remain forward).35. Throw medicine ball back and forth from asquat position while throwing one leg out tothe side, then the other.2. Move closer to the goalie and using thehandle of your tennis racquet as a pointer,put the handle as quickly as possible on theground and have the goalie react with hisstick.
