Appendix O: Sample of questions from longitudinalinterviewsAn example of the type of questions asked through the recurring longitudinalinterviews with key stakeholders. These interviews took the form of guidedconversation that occurred throughout the research period, repeatedlydiscussing key themes. Below is an example of the questions asked duringone such interview with Paola Masperi (07/03/08).The conversation began with an overview of each of the methods used inmonitoring and evaluating the programme. Please give a brief comment on your perspective on each of themethods, what you consider to be the strengths and weaknesses –primarily reflecting on the process of what has happened for thepurposes of the PhD and how we could improve things. This led into follow-up questions concerning particular methods. Do you think they understood what we meant by a baseline? Why do you think the teachers were often curious that we wanted totest the same children again - what do you think was going on there? So what did you think about the lesson observation? Did you think the group interviews were worth while? What do you think of the diary – the idea of getting themselves tomonitor themselves throughout the process, did it add much value ornot?I then drilled down into specific methods to ask more detailed questions. When we often asked them „what is your worst lesson‟ they oftenanswered again what is their favourite lesson. Where do you thinkwas the breakdown in communication? Maybe we should have asked what was your worst lesson? Do you think there is any other way we could have engaged with thechildren slightly more creatively to get more out of them?496
