Theyprovide educational content <strong>for</strong> use on a variety <strong>of</strong> technology plat<strong>for</strong>ms withthe aim <strong>of</strong> lower<strong>in</strong>g the cost and improv<strong>in</strong>g the quality <strong>of</strong> primary andsecondary education. In Ethiopia, Eduvision work <strong>in</strong> partnership with theEng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Capacity Build<strong>in</strong>g Programme (ECBP) (http://www.ecbp.bizaccessed 01/08/08), a division with<strong>in</strong> the M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Capacity Build<strong>in</strong>g(MoCB) that is partially funded by the German organisation DeutscheGesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ). The role <strong>of</strong> Eduvision isto provide curriculum-based content <strong>for</strong> the XO laptops(http://www.laptop.org accessed 12/09/08) be<strong>in</strong>g distributed across thecountry as part <strong>of</strong> the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) <strong>in</strong>itiative.My partnership with them was established <strong>in</strong> December 2007 and aga<strong>in</strong> was<strong>for</strong>malised through sign<strong>in</strong>g a Memorandum <strong>of</strong> Understand<strong>in</strong>g. It was agreedthat I would advise Eduvision regard<strong>in</strong>g their pre-exist<strong>in</strong>g projectassessments and assist <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g and deliver<strong>in</strong>g an appropriatemonitor<strong>in</strong>g and evaluation programme <strong>for</strong> their work <strong>in</strong> Ethiopia. In return<strong>for</strong> this assistance, Eduvision agreed to cover all travel and liv<strong>in</strong>g expensesdur<strong>in</strong>g the fieldwork. The <strong>in</strong>itial stage <strong>in</strong>volved a week <strong>of</strong> discussions andprovid<strong>in</strong>g methodological tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Zurich <strong>in</strong> February 2008. The secondstage was four weeks <strong>of</strong> fieldwork <strong>in</strong> Ethiopia <strong>in</strong> April 2008 <strong>in</strong> order toestablish the methodological framework <strong>for</strong> the monitor<strong>in</strong>g and evaluation.The third stage was cont<strong>in</strong>ual distance-based support to the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>in</strong> Zurichand Addis Ababa between May and November 2008 regard<strong>in</strong>g develop<strong>in</strong>gand ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g effective monitor<strong>in</strong>g processes.
