I was <strong>in</strong>vited by InWEnt to participate <strong>in</strong> a one-week eAlumni workshop <strong>in</strong>Zschortau, Germany <strong>in</strong> February 2008. The event gathered 40 course alumni,tra<strong>in</strong>ers and „eLearn<strong>in</strong>g champions‟ from 15 countries across the develop<strong>in</strong>gworld. They are hosts <strong>of</strong> the eLearn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Africa</strong> conference,an annual event to develop eLearn<strong>in</strong>g capacities across the cont<strong>in</strong>ent(http://www.elearn<strong>in</strong>g-africa.com accessed 08/08/08).The position <strong>of</strong> ICWE as one <strong>of</strong> the major actors with<strong>in</strong> the <strong>Africa</strong>n <strong>ICT</strong> <strong>for</strong>education sector made them an ideal partner <strong>for</strong> ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g access to a widerange <strong>of</strong> perspectives from across the cont<strong>in</strong>ent. As the organisers <strong>of</strong>eLearn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Africa</strong>, the company ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> a database <strong>of</strong> 2000 members,ma<strong>in</strong>ly <strong>Africa</strong>n, which enables them to conduct research regard<strong>in</strong>g how theycan best improve the service they are provid<strong>in</strong>g. I designed an onl<strong>in</strong>equestionnaire <strong>in</strong> collaboration with ICWE <strong>in</strong> order to gather data from thesemembers (Appendix A). The primary agenda <strong>for</strong> ICWE was to obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation pert<strong>in</strong>ent <strong>for</strong> ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>creased donor fund<strong>in</strong>g, and <strong>for</strong> myresearch it was to ask questions regard<strong>in</strong>g monitor<strong>in</strong>g, evaluation and impactassessment.
