M140 Effect of Mintrex Zn on performance and eggshellquality in laying hens. S. Qiujuan, W. Jinlei, Z. Tianguo, and G. Yuming*,College of Animal Science and Technology China Agr<strong>ic</strong>ultural University,Beijing, China.The study was conducted to assess eff<strong>ic</strong>acy of Mintrex Zn (Novus International,Inc., St. Charles, MO, USA) on performance of laying hens in differentsupplemental ways. A total of one-hundred-eight 37-wk-old Hyline brownlayers were randomly allotted to 2 treatments with 6 repl<strong>ic</strong>ates per treatment(3 pens per repl<strong>ic</strong>ate with 3 layers each). The control is the basal diet withinorgan<strong>ic</strong> minerals (CuSO 4, ZnSO 4and MnSO 4separately, i.e., Cu 10 ppm,Zn 30 ppm and Mn 30 ppm). The second treatment was supplemented withcombination of Mintrex Zn at 20 ppm and sulfite Zn at 10 ppm. The diet wasformulated based on NRC (1994). The trace minerals in basal diets were Cu 6.5ppm, Mn 17 ppm and Zn 20 ppm, respectively, based on the actual analysis. Alldiets were isoenerget<strong>ic</strong>, isonitrogenous and isomethoine, part of the Met sourcewas provided from Mintrex (Mintrex provides about 80% Met activity). Theexperiment lasted for ten weeks from 39- to 48-wk-old. The results showedthat supplementation of Mintex Zn to replace sulfite Zn 20 ppm of 30 ppm hasno signif<strong>ic</strong>ant effects on egg production and egg shell quality in laying hensduring the experimental period. However, egg weight, and egg mass tendedto be increased, and FCR tended to be improved numer<strong>ic</strong>ally by Mintrex Znsupplementation. Zn levels in tissues (sera, liver, pancreas, spleen and phalanxand yolk) was not signif<strong>ic</strong>antly affected. Hepat<strong>ic</strong> enzyme activities weresignif<strong>ic</strong>antly enhanced (P < 0.05) by Mintrex Zn supplementation, howeverCuZn-SOD and AKP were not affeted. The blood lymphocyte proliferationexposed to ConA or LPS and BSA antibody production on day 10 post primaryand secondary injection of BSA was not influenced by Mintrex Zn. In brief,dietary Mintrex Zn to replace sulfite Zn at 20 ppm for the soybean meal typelayer’s diet improved FCR and egg weights but not egg production; Bothhumoral and cellular immunity, tissue Zn retention and CuZn-SOD and AKPactivities in hepat<strong>ic</strong> tissues was not signif<strong>ic</strong>antly influenced, however, Ca wassignif<strong>ic</strong>antly enhanced by Mintrex Zn.Key Words: Mintrex Zn, layers, performanceM141 Effect of Mintrex Cu on performance and eggshellquality in laying hens. China.An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of phytase with differentdose and dosage-form on the performance and utilization of calcium (Ca) andphosphorus (P) in laying hens. A total of eight hundred and forty 18-week-oldlaying hens were randomly allocated into 7 groups with 6 repl<strong>ic</strong>ates of 20 birdseach. Group I, as the positive control, was fed with the basal diet, Group II, asthe negative control, was fed with low-available phosphorus (AP) diet, whilegroup III, IV and V, as trial groups, were fed with low-AP diet adding coatingdosage-form phytase at three levels (300, 1000 and 10000U/kg, respectively),group VI and VII, as the same, were supplemented with 300U/kg phytase withpowdery and granular dosage-form, respectively. The results ind<strong>ic</strong>ated that,compared with the negative control, the addition of phytase to the low-AP dietas the only variable did not affect egg gravity, broken-egg rate or ADFI (P >0.05), but enhanced the laying production, laying rate (P < 0.05) and reducedthe feed conversion ratio (FCR) signif<strong>ic</strong>antly (P < 0.01), meanwhile, phytaseaddition did not affect eggshell hardness and th<strong>ic</strong>kness(P > 0.05), but both hadbeen improved slightly; Phytase supplementation increased the concentrationof P (P > 0.05) in blood and reduced the activity of serum alkaline phosphatase(AKP) (P < 0.05) signif<strong>ic</strong>antly; The contents of tibia Ca and P of trial groupshad been increased to a greater extent(especially tibia P) (P > 0.05) and theapparent digestibility of Ca and P of the trial groups were improved (P < 0.05)signif<strong>ic</strong>antly Compared with the negative control, there were no differencesamong the positive control and the trial groups. It was concluded that theaddition of phytase to low-AP diets did increase the performance and utilizationof Ca and P, and phytase addition with 300U/kg was enough to meet the nutrientrequirement of laying hens for growth and production. Zhang, College ofAnimal Science, South China Agr<strong>ic</strong>ultural University, Guangzhou, GuangdongProvince, China.A experiment was conducted to study the comparative analysis on egg quality,nutrients and relative gene with gene expression profile of embryo by cDNAm<strong>ic</strong>roarray from Lingshan Local breed and White Plymouth Rock breed. Eggswere obtained from two breeds of ch<strong>ic</strong>kens(Lingshan Local breed and WhitePlymouth Rock) with similar age (33 wk) and received diets formulated tocontain the same dietary energy and protein levels within a farm. Sixty eggswere taken at random from each breed. Thirty eggs from each breed wereused to analyze egg quality, components of fatty acid, and amino acid. Thirtyeggs were used to evaluate the gene expression with gene expression profileby cDNA m<strong>ic</strong>roarray at 4, 10, 20 embryon<strong>ic</strong> age. All data were made usingindependent-samples T-Test by SAS (SAS Institute, Cary, NC, USA). Theresults showed that: (1) egg and albumen weight of White Plymouth Rock breedwere signif<strong>ic</strong>antly higher than Lingshan Local breed. Lingshan Local breed hadsignif<strong>ic</strong>antly higher yolk weight and yolk/albumen ratio than White PlymouthRock breed. (2) The content of water in yolk and albumen of White PlymouthRock breed were signif<strong>ic</strong>antly higher than Linshan Local breed. (3) The contentof total amino acids and necessary amino acids of Lingshan Local breed weresignif<strong>ic</strong>antly higher than White Plymouth Rock breed. (4) The content of fattyacids except r-linolen<strong>ic</strong> acid and arachidon<strong>ic</strong> acid of Lingshan Local breed werehigher than White Plymouth Rock breed. (5) The genes associated with aminometabolism (Cys, Phe, Try, Tyr, Glu and His) were signif<strong>ic</strong>antly different in20 embryon<strong>ic</strong> age between the two breeds.
