EIE-Surveyor<strong>Implementation</strong> of the Bologna-BMD system <strong>in</strong> Norway 111Accord<strong>in</strong>g to the “The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance <strong>in</strong> Education” (called Nasjonalt organfor kvalitet i utdann<strong>in</strong>gen (NOKUT)), we have the follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation on the implementation ofBolgna process <strong>in</strong> Norway:“In response to the Bologna Process which started <strong>in</strong> 1998, a Quality Reform was launched <strong>in</strong> 2001. It<strong>in</strong>troduced bachelor’s, master’s <strong>and</strong> PhD degrees generally follow<strong>in</strong>g a 3 year + 2 year + 3 yearmodel. The new degrees superseded the old ones (ma<strong>in</strong>ly 4 year + 2 year + 3 year, as e.g. c<strong>and</strong>.-mag., c<strong>and</strong>.-philol., c<strong>and</strong>.- scient., dr.-polit., dr.philos. etc.) from the end of 2003. The old degrees willbe completely phased out by the end of 2007. The Quality Reform also <strong>in</strong>troduced a concept toestablish stricter quality assurance mechanisms <strong>in</strong> higher education which resulted <strong>in</strong> the found<strong>in</strong>g ofan <strong>in</strong>dependent agency for quality assurance <strong>in</strong> education – NOKUT (Norwegian Agency for QualityAssurance <strong>in</strong> Education).”Norway has probably implemented the Bologna process successfully <strong>in</strong> all higher educational<strong>in</strong>stitutions com<strong>in</strong>g under NOKUT.Qualification frameworkThe authoritative organisation on qualification <strong>and</strong> accreditation matters <strong>in</strong> Norway NOKUT has thefollow<strong>in</strong>g comment:“In accordance with the Bologna Process recommendations Norway is currently tak<strong>in</strong>g part <strong>in</strong> the workon the planned <strong>Europe</strong>an Qualification Framework. The objective of this is to create a <strong>Europe</strong>anframework to enable qualification systems at the national <strong>and</strong> sectoral levels relate to each other.”All the universities <strong>and</strong> colleges offer Bachelors <strong>and</strong> Masters <strong>and</strong> as a result also a PhD with<strong>in</strong> theBologna-BMD concept. Here follows a short <strong>in</strong>troduction to the Bologna system. Present<strong>in</strong>g theEng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g education <strong>in</strong> the Nordic countries for own purposes <strong>and</strong> for the <strong>in</strong>sight of others isessential.
