Learning the Desktop 1014FIGURE 4.1Customizing the Desktop WorkspacesOn the far right side of the bottom panel is the Trash icon. Drag files or folders to it fromthe desktop or the file browser to delete them. They are not truly deleted until the trash isemptied. To empty the Trash and permanently remove the files in it, right-click on theTrash icon, and select Empty Trash. You must confirm the deletion of the files beforethey are really deleted. After they are deleted with the Empty Trash function, theycannot be retrieved. If files are still in the trash, click on the Trash icon to retrieve them.A window will open displaying the contents of the Trash. Drag the file or folder toanother graphical file browser window or the desktop to restore it.To further customize the desktop, play around with the preferences by going to the Systemmenu on the top panel and selecting programs from the Preferences menu.
