Samba File Sharing 309Clicking OK saves the new user to /etc/samba/smbusers, making the changes take placeimmediately. Repeat this process for each Samba user you want to configure.Adding a Samba ShareAll currently configured shares are shown each time the program is started as shown inFigure 13.5. To add a new share, click the Add Share button in the toolbar. The CreateSamba Share dialog window appears as shown in Figure 13.7.13FIGURE 13.7Adding a Samba ShareThe Create Samba Share dialog window includes two tabs for configuring the options foreach share. The Basic tab contains the following options:. Directory: The directory to share via Samba. The directory must already exist.. Share name: The share name visible to the Samba clients.. Description: Brief description for the share.. Writable: If selected, client systems can write back to the directory. If not selected,the shared directory is read-only.. Visible: If selected, the share will appear when a system on the network browses forSamba shares. If not selected, the user must know the share name to access it.On the Access tab, indicate whether everyone or only specific users should be allowedaccess to the share. If Only allow access to specific users is selected, select them for thelist of existing Samba users on this tab as well.TIPTo find out who is connected to the Samba server, use the smbstatus command from ashell prompt. It will list all active connections, including usernames and IP addresses.
