ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS AT YOURHANEY PLANTATION99FEATURE 179 – HISTORIC POSTFeature 179 is an oval post measuring 0.9 by 0.7 feet and extending 0.5 feet into subsoil. The fillconsists of dark brown (10YR3/3) loamy sand. Artifacts consist of one rhyolite core, oneunidentifiable nail, one plain gray salt glazed stoneware of an unknown type, one aqua bottleglass, and one melted bottle glass. None of the artifacts from this collection are particularlytemporally sensitive.FEATURE 182 – HISTORIC POSTFeature 182 is a rather amorphous post measuring 1.3 by 1.0 feet and extending 0.6 feet intosubsoil. The fill consists of very dark grayish brown (10YR3/2) loamy sand. Artifacts consist ofone Mount Pleasant plain medium sand tempered sherd, one Deptford plain coarse sand temperedsherd, one rhyolite flake fragment, one unidentifiable burnt white bodied earthenware, one aquabottle glass, and one olive green bottle glass fragment. None of the artifacts from this collectionare particularly temporally sensitive.FEATURE 183 – HISTORIC POSTFeature 183 is a squarish post measuring 0.8 by 0.8 feet and extending 0.3 feet into the subsoil.The fill consists of dark brown (10YR3/3) loamy sand. Artifacts consist of one Mount Pleasantfabric impressed medium sand tempered sherd and one brick fragment (discarded in the field).FEATURE 185 – HISTORIC PITFeature 185 is a shallow circular pit measuring 1.4 feet in diameter and extending 0.3 feet into thesubsoil. The fill consists of yellowish brown (10YR5/4) loamy sand. Artifacts consisted of oneresidual prehistoric sherd, one undecorated creamware (1762-1820), and three fragments ofoyster shell. The creamware suggests a turn of the century date of origin for this feature. Thefunction of this pit is unknown.FEATURE 186 – HISTORIC POSTFeature 186 is a square post measuring 0.6 by 0.6 feet and extending 0.6 feet into subsoil. Thefill consists of dark yellowish brown (10YR3/4) loamy sand. Artifacts consisted of one Pee Deereed punctated coarse sand tempered pottery, one piece of brick, one Staffordshire slipware(1670-1795), and one olive green bottle glass. Some charcoal was also recovered from this post.The slipware suggests an 18 th century origin for this feature.FEATURE 187 – POSTFeature 187 is a squarish post measuring 0.9 by 0.8 feet and extending 0.4 feet into subsoil. Thefill consists of dark grayish brown (10YR3/2) loamy sand. Artifacts consist of one Pee Deecurvilinear complicated stamped pottery sherd. The lack of historic artifacts suggests that this maybe a late prehistoric feature. Interestingly, the feature yielded an OCR date of 1865.
