206Structure 5 – ShedAnother structure identified is a portion of what is believed to be a shed. The fill of some of thepost is similar to the fill of posts in the work area in front of Structure 3 and may have beenconstructed at the same time. This structure is oriented N5°W. Its measurements are unclear, but isapproximately 8 by 9 feet. Features 138, 139, 140, 141, 142, 276, 277, 278, and 279 arethought to be related. Of those, 138, 141, 142, 276, and 279 contained mottled clay fill. Also, nearby post feature 140 also contained this fill and is added as related. It is possible that thebuilding was wattle and daub given the clay fill. The MCD of 1766 (Table 34) closely correspondswith the dates from the Structure 3 work area, suggesting that they were initially built and used atthe same time.Structure 6 – Burnt outbuildingThe final structure identified was represented by features 83, 88, 89, 135, and 275. All of theseare posts containing large quantities of charcoal indicating a structure that probably burned down.Of interest is that this building is unlike the others in that it is oriented with our grid at N37°E ratherthan with other buildings, which are closer to magnetic north. It appears to be 26 feet on one side, with the other dimension unavailable. Unfortunately only one datable ceramic, an undecoratedcreamware (1762-1820) was recovered from these features. It is suspected that the building datesto the twentieth century. Local resident Deryl Young indicates that at least two buildings burnt downsomewhere on the property in the twentieth century (Deryl Young, personal communication 2005).Table 34.
