Isol<strong>at</strong>ed Finds will be recorded with"00" used for the site design<strong>at</strong>ion within a given st<strong>at</strong>e and county, theprovenience number recorded by "IF" number within a given county and artifactidentific<strong>at</strong>ion numbers assigned to each line item from the site. Artifacts th<strong>at</strong>have been cross-mended, photographed, discarded, lost or destroyed will benoted and a Collections Discrepancy St<strong>at</strong>ement will be included in thesubmission package, if necessary.The OAS requires th<strong>at</strong> all m<strong>at</strong>erials be bagged in 4 mil zip lock bags. All bags willbe clean and undamaged. Bags containing metal artifacts will have a silica gelpack included.C<strong>at</strong>alog bags are the only bags actually containing artifacts. A single bag willcorrespond to a single line item entry. Using a permanent black marker, thesebags are labeled on the outside with the Site Number, the Field Bag Number,Artifact Description and Quantity. Provenience bags will be tagged and labeledwith the Site Number, Field Bag Number, Project Name, a ProvenienceDescription, the Investig<strong>at</strong>or's Affili<strong>at</strong>ion, the Field Recovery D<strong>at</strong>e, and the BagSequence Number. All provenience bags from a single site will then beconsolid<strong>at</strong>ed into a single Site Bag. The Site Bags will be labeled with the SiteNumber, the Provenience Number Range, the Project Name, the ProvenienceDescription Range, the Investig<strong>at</strong>or's Affili<strong>at</strong>ion, the Field Recovery D<strong>at</strong>e Range,and the Bag Sequence Number.Since the OAS reboxes all m<strong>at</strong>erials, artifacts will be put in new/minimally usedcardboard artifact boxes. Fragile, unstable and problem<strong>at</strong>ic artifacts will bewrapped in acid-free paper and stored within an acid-free specimen box. Large,fragile and oddly shaped objects may warrant their own archival boxes. For eachproject, multiple sites are placed within a single box. Bags will be arranged intheir box by site, then by provenience number. Isol<strong>at</strong>ed Finds will be placed <strong>at</strong>the very front. All bags will be ordered with the labels facing forward in one ortwo rows. The box weight will be limited to 30-35 lbs. All boxes will be free oftape and other adhesives. A similar standard will be used for boxing documents.Document folders will be arranged by site, provenience and alphabetically by thetype of paperwork (as listed on the folder). A packing list will be gener<strong>at</strong>ed foreach box.Once a box is completed, it will be labeled using a laser-printed label taped to theoutside center, with Site Number(s), the Project Name, the Box Number, theProvenience, and Contracting Agent included on the tag3
