ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS AT YOURHANEY PLANTATION119FEATURE 287 – POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 287 is squarish post measuring 0.7 by 0.7 feet and extending 0.1 feet into subsoil. The fillconsists of very dark grayish brown (10YR3/2) loamy sand. It was recognized after theexcav<strong>at</strong>ion of Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24. No artifacts were recovered and it is believed to pred<strong>at</strong>e Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24and is probably prehistoric.FEATURE 288 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 288 is a squarish historic post measuring 0.9 by 0.8 feet and extending 1.4 feet intosubsoil. The fill consists of very dark gray (10YR3/1) loamy sand. Historic artifacts consisted of3.4 grams of hand made brick, one hand wrought nail, one burnt gray salt glazed stoneware, oneStaffordshire slipware (1670-1795), one clear lead glazed redware, and one piece of olive greenbottle glass. Prehistoric artifacts consist of one Thoms Creek fine sand Reed Punct<strong>at</strong>e sherd, twoThoms Creek plain fine sand tempered sherds, one Deptford Simple Stamped sherd, four DeptfordPlain sherds, one Deep Creek Check Stamped sherd, 17 residual sherds, and one porphyriticrhyolite small triangular point. The fe<strong>at</strong>ure intrudes into Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24.FEATURE 290 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 290 is a circular post measuring 0.5 feet in diameter. The fe<strong>at</strong>ure was identified uponcleaning the surface of Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24, but did not extend further. In essence, the fe<strong>at</strong>ure was notrecognized until excav<strong>at</strong>ions had reached its base. No artifacts were recovered. However, sinceit was found intruding into Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24, it is historic.FEATURE 291 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 291 is a squarish post measuring an estim<strong>at</strong>e of 0.5 by 0.6 feet and extending 0.3 feetinto Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24. This fe<strong>at</strong>ure was only identified after Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24 was profiled. The fill consists ofvery dark brown (10YR2/2) sandy loam. No artifacts were recovered, but since it intrudes into ahistoric fe<strong>at</strong>ure, it is historic in origin.FEATURE 292 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 292 is a squarish post measuring 0.5 by 0.5 feet and extending 0.6 feet into subsoil. Alarger, somewh<strong>at</strong> amorphous area continued to the south. In profile, this appeared to be a shallowarea th<strong>at</strong> may have been washed out around the post. The fill consists of dark brown (10YR3/3)loamy sand. Artifacts consist of one brick fragment, three residual prehistoric sherds, and onerhyolite flake fragment. The fe<strong>at</strong>ure intrudes into Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24 and therefore, post d<strong>at</strong>es it.FEATURE 293 – POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 293 is a circular post measuring 0.6 feet in diameter and extending 0.3 feet into thesubsoil. It contains dark yellowish brown (10YR3/4) loamy sand. No artifacts were recoveredfrom the fe<strong>at</strong>ure.
