ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS AT YOURHANEY PLANTATION117FEATURE 275 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 275 is an amorphous to round post measuring 2.7 by 2.4 feet and extending 0.4 feet intosubsoil. The post appeared burnt and contained black (10YR2/1) loamy sand in the centralportion (about 1 foot in diameter) with very dark grayish brown (2.5Y3/2) loamy sand along theperimeter. Artifacts consisted of six pieces of lime mortar, eight medium sand tempered MountPleasant fabric impressed sherds, five Thoms Creek plain fine sand tempered sherds, and one pieceof petrified wood.FEATURE 278 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 278 is a circular post measuring 0.9 by 0.8 feet and extending 1.1 feet into the subsoil.The fill consists of very dark grayish brown (10YR3/1) loamy sand. Artifacts consist of one pieceof lime mortar, four Yaughan colonoware sherds, and one plain fine sand tempered prehistoricsherd.FEATURE 279 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 279 is a square post measuring 0.8 by 0.7 feet and extending 0.4 feet into subsoil. Thefill consists of brown (7.5 YR4/3) loamy sand. Artifacts consisted of one Staffordshire slipware(1670-1795), four plain Wilmington/Hanover grog tempered sherds, three plain Mount Pleasantmedium sand tempered sherds, and three residual sherds.FEATURE 284 – HISTORIC TRENCHFe<strong>at</strong>ure 284 is an irregular trench shaped fe<strong>at</strong>ure about 3.2 feet long and 0.9 feet wide andextending 0.4 feet into the subsoil. The fill consisted of brown (10YR4/3) loamy sand. Artifactsconsisted of 12 pieces of handmade brick, 13 pieces of lime mortar, one square shanked nail,one undecor<strong>at</strong>ed creamware (1762-1820), and eight fragments of animal bone. No posts werefound <strong>at</strong> the base of the fe<strong>at</strong>ure. However, two historic posts (Fe<strong>at</strong>ures 194 and 201) are in closeproximity and may be rel<strong>at</strong>ed.FEATURE 285 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 285 is a square post measuring 0.8 by 0.8 feet and extending 0.4 feet into the subsoil.The fill consists of very dark brown (10YR2/2) loamy sand. Although no artifacts were recovered,it intrudes into Fe<strong>at</strong>ure 24, which is a large rectangular historic pit.FEATURE 286 – HISTORIC POSTFe<strong>at</strong>ure 286 is a square post measuring 0.6 by 0.6 feet and extending 0.8 feet into subsoil. Thefill consists of very dark brown (10YR2/2) loamy sand. One hand wrought nail, two pieces ofanimal bone, and three residual prehistoric sherds were recovered. This post intrudes into Fe<strong>at</strong>ure24, which is a large rectangular historic pit.
