Description of Traditional KnowledgeThere is extensive placenames research by others, such as the Kitikmeot Heritage Society thatwill be verified and included. Representatives will be invited to participate.5.3 Gap Analysis and Informing ProjectIf permission is granted for access to the databases by the KIA, the information that is availablein the NTKP and the TNP would be analyzed and used to identify which data are lacking and forwhich particular areas. The gap analysis will focus the site-specific interviews as it will beinstrumental in developing a follow-up questionnaire. Individual interviews and workshops willbe completed to address these gaps.TK will be summarized to provide an understanding the natural history of the area. TK shouldbe applied through all phases of planning and environmental assessment, and Sabina iscommitted to meeting this objective.5.4 Community WorkshopsThe most time and cost-effective means of resolving the issues with placenames and addressinginformation gaps is to meet with the elders of the Kitikmeot and organizations involved in TKcompilation. Most of the elders have moved to Kugluktuk and Cambridge Bay and a workshopwill he held in each community. The objectives of the workshops and follow-up discussions will be to:• Resolve outstanding issues with placenames for the Project• Identify elders and current land-users that have specific information for the Project andwould participate in site-specific interviews. This will be a small-scale study; from 2-5individuals will be needed. The timing of the workshops is dependent on availability of elders, and of organizationrepresentatives. These are tentatively planned for January of 2008 and will be held regardless ofwhether access to the KIA TK databases has been provided.A key facet of the TK specific area study is that it will be planned, administered, and compiledby the Inuit themselves.5.5 Data CompilationPlacenames will be included in the NTKP as they are verified in the workshops. Oncetranscribed and digitized, interview information will need to be verified with the consultant whowas interviewed, and the release form signed. Then, the data can be incorporated into the NTKPas per previously established methods.January 2008 Hackett River Project – Project Proposal Sabina Silver CorporationReport Version B.1 5–2 Rescan Environmental Services Ltd.
