The hiringof new faculty and the increase in research activities isbeing felt in the community. According to the ResearchInformation, Laurentian University is maintaining itscommitment and even encouraging greater fundamentaland applied research, alone or in collaboration.With the creation of the Research, Development and Creativity Office,Laurentian University can now support researchers in a more efficient wayand also will be able to better promote research success in the community.Through the excellent work of our faculty, Laurentian has been able tocontribute in the development of new discoveries. Outstanding work is beingconducted at the University in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry,Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Physics andAstronomy, Earth Sciences, and Human Kinetics.With the hiring of faculty at the new Northern Ontario School of Medicine,a new era of medical research is also being initiated. The addition of fourPh.D. programs in Sciences (Biomolecular, Precambrian Geology, NaturalResource Engineering and Boreal Ecology) will also help promote the trainingof highly qualified personnel.The various NSERC grants awarded to researchers and students at LaurentianUniversity have and will continue to play a major role in the socio-11
