metallogenesis of associated PGE mineralization. The detailed petrographicinformation and more comprehensive range of geochemical data will permita much more detailed and rigorous petrogenetic and metallogenetic interpretation, including an evaluation of source characteristics, tectonic settings, magma types, fractionation and contamination processes, sulfide saturationhistories, magma-ore interactions, hydrothermal mobilization, alteration, andmetamorphism. The large number of well-characterised samples that will beavailable for this phase of the project offers an unprecedented opportunityto classify the intrusions in terms of their affinity and petrogenesis, to identifythe most important factors in the metallogenesis of the PGE in thoseintrusions, and to develop new techniques to discriminate between barrenand mineralized intrusions. It will provide a very valuable basis for designingsubsequent, more detailed and more focused studies on the most prospectiveintrusions.79
