144David Sinclair with/avec A. Bellerive, M. Dixit, C. K. Hargrove,Jacques Farine, Doug Hallman & Clarence Virtue 6R & D for a Xenon Double Beta Decay experiementA grant of $165,000 per year for two years.Une subvention de 165 000 $ par année pour deux ans.Subatomic Physics Project – Projet en physique subatomiqueFrom the discoveries at SNO and Kamiokande, we know that neutrinos –one of the most abundant particles in the universe – possess a small mass butwe do not know what the actual mass is. One method to determine the massis to observe a very rare process known as neutrino-less double beta decay. If such a process exists, it is directly sensitive to the neutrino mass but alsorequires special properties of the neutrinos. A study of this process wouldprovide critical information about the nature of fundamental particles. Observingthis process requires very exacting control of the various backgroundsources. This is an area where SNO has developed leading expertise.6 The names of the researchers from Laurentian University are shown in italics./Les noms des chercheurs de l’UniversitéLaurentienne sont en italiques.
