However, there is still considerable debate regardingthe origin of the mineralization in those deposits and more recent work hasshown that PGE mineralization occurs in a very wide range of other geologicalsettings. There have been substantial improvements in our understandingof the magmatic, magmatic-hydrothermal, hydrothermal, and tectonometamorphicprocesses that may mobilize and concentrate PGEs, as well assignificant improvements in analytical techniques. These improvements nowallow us to accurately measure the abundance of virtually every elementthat is relevant to the petrogenesis of the PGE mineralization at parts perbillion to parts per trillion levels. Significant opportunities exist to increaseour understanding of the petrogenesis, metallogenesis, and prospectivity ofmafic-ultramafic intrusions. This project represents Phase 2 of a joint Ontario Ministry of NorthernDevelopment and Mines (MNDM) / Mineral Exploration Research Centre(MERC) / Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) study focusing on the petrogenesis, metallogenesis, and prospectivity of mafic-ultramafic intrusions inOntario. This phase will involve detailed petrographic studies, mineral chemicalanalysis, and whole-rock geochemical analyses for a broad range of traceand ultratrace elements relevant to the petrogenesis of the intrusions and the
