For example, our research programsstudy the evolutionary ecology of northern flying squirrels in Algonquin Park,the life-history and physiological ecology of reptiles at geographic extremes,the evolution and biogeography of water beetles across Canada, and theconservation and restoration of forests that have been impacted by humanactivities. All of these research activities require the use of a vehicle. A vehicleis as essential to field research as a microscope is to microbiology. Rentingvehicles is expensive especially with respect to liability. The expense of rentingvehicles also prevents us from spending research funds on salaries for thegraduate students and assistants that we train (HQP), or on research equipmentand consumables. We are requesting funds to purchase a station wagonwhich will allow us to transport people and equipment for field research.
